Explain your position with Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (Dallas CAC):
As a family advocate, I provide ongoing case management and support to our clients. My job is to help remove barriers. This may look like assisting families with applying for resources like food stamps or accompanying them to court when their case goes to trial and everything else in between!
I provide the children and their caregivers emotional support through their entire treatment process. Because I bilingual, I am also able to help provide translation when necessary.
What led you to work at Dallas CAC:
I have a passion for working with families and helping them get better. I strongly believe that every family deserves a chance to change generational trauma. I love seeing how kiddos get better. I love working with the single moms who just need a word of encouragement. I love being able to bring change into a kiddo’s life. I love knowing that the work that we do changes generations.
What has been one of your most meaningful or impactful experiences while at Dallas CAC:
There are so many – but here are a few that come to mind:
- Accompanying a client to court during her trial. It was really impactful to see how strong she was and how she was able to speak her truth.
- Hearing from a supportive caregiver – in this instance, a mom – say that for the first time in a long time she felt good and felt independent and how she has proven to herself that she can make it on her own with her kids.
What is the one thing you are most proud of about your job:
I am proud of seeing how everyone is willing to step in during those late-night emergency cases. I love seeing how the whole Family Advocacy team comes together to help one another.
Tell me about someone who has influenced you or a mentor who has helped the most in your career:
My mom is my biggest supporter. She was married at 15 through an arranged marriage and suffered through so much. Yet she also had helping hands just like people that work at Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and through that, our generation reaped the benefits.
My mom reminds me that no matter what you go through in life you are capable of so much!
How do you enjoy spending your time when you are not working:
I am a big believer in family. I love spending time with my mom, my sisters, brother and nieces and nephews. I love playing with my dogs Pequis and Luna. I also enjoy scrapbooking, home décor, fashion, and love thrifting!
Favorite quote that inspires you personally:
It’s a verse from the Bible, Proverbs 31:25. “She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
What is your go-to karaoke song:
Any Vicente Fernandez songs, or Cornelio Reyna songs.
