John, age 14, was a high school freshman who transferred schools mid-year. With a rough home life, John sought out parental figures through teachers. One teacher he confided in groomed him to not resist abuse. Confused, John told a friend about the relationship and his friend reported it to the school John was brought to DCAC where he was able to tell his story and receive healing services. Today, after testifying in his teacher’s case, John is studying to be a social worker to help other children in need.
Delilah, age 3, was given over-the-counter adult allergy medicines every night by her parents to keep her asleep. One night, she received an overdose and was rushed to Children’s Medical Center. The REACH Clinic was contact on suspicion of this incident being child abuse. DCAC partners investigated the crime and provided services to Delilah and her siblings. All four children were removed from the home and placed in the care of safe family, with continued assistance from DCAC.
Suzy, age 12, has a mother who dated a man that made Suzy uncomfortable. He soon began to sexually abuse Suzy. Suzy began to regress in school and a caring teacher, who had received training from DCAC, knew something wasn’t right. Suzy confided to her teacher about the boyfriend, and Suzy’s teacher immediately reported the abuse. Suzy was brought in for a forensic interview where she told the secret she has been holding for so long. DCAC therapists provided healing services for Suzy and her mother.
