School’s out for summer! For many parents that means that kids may be home alone or at summer camps. DCAC has a few important tips to keep your kiddos safe this summer.
- Always maintain open communication with your child; let your child know they can talk to you about anything.
- If your child is home alone, be sure to have a safety plan. This plan should be easy to read and follow. Remember to check-in with your child several times a day and make sure they have practiced first-aid.
- Do your research when registering your child for summer camp. It is important to know the staff-to-camper ratio; if the staff has had child abuse training; and what the discipline policy is. Always ask questions, meet the staff, and ask to tour the site. Trust your gut. If you feel uneasy about it, don’t send your child there.
