Jane is 4. Her parents are divorced. Her dad is a truck driver and her mom lives in an assisted living facility because of a terminal illness. Jane’s loving grandparents care for her except when her father is in town once a month.
After spending time with her father, Jane often describes adult activities that she should not know about at age 4. Her grandparents report their suspicions and Jane is brought to DCAC.
Jane tells her experiences to a forensic interviewer, and for the first time, an adult understands what she is trying to tell them. DCAC staff provides healing services to prepare Jane and her grandparents how to overcome the trauma of her abuse, but also the loss of her parents – her father was sent to prison and her mother passed away.
