Dear Friend,
Every day at Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC), we are reminded that child abuse doesn’t follow a schedule. While many families are preparing for the holiday season, others are facing the unimaginable. That’s when we step in—any hour of the day, any day of the week. The DCAC team stands ready, so the families we serve are met with unwavering support when they need it most.
When an urgent call comes in, like a priority one (P1) case, there’s no time to waste. A P1 case happens when a child is in immediate danger, has already been harmed, or faces further harm if they return home. P1 cases often arise when a child discloses abuse and the alleged perpetrator either resides with or has direct access to the child, making immediate intervention critical. In these urgent cases, time is of the essence.
One recent afternoon, DCAC received four P1 cases. That day, Sonia, one of our bilingual Family Advocates, had already worked most of her typical 9-to-5 shift before meeting the first P1 family at 4 p.m. and continued tirelessly, seeing three more P1s until after 2 a.m. With each family, she assessed their emergency needs and safety concerns, connecting them to critical resources and providing a sense of safety and hope. In those moments, she wasn’t just answering a call—she was helping families navigate through the hardest day of their lives.
DCAC’s commitment to families never wavers, no matter the time of day or the time of year. And we need your help to keep showing up for them.
“We don’t just promise better tomorrows—we work together to make them a reality. When
families find their inner strength and see that they aren’t alone, we know we’ve made a lasting impact.”
— Scottie (DCAC Family Advocate)
This holiday season, please consider standing with us in fulfilling our mission to improve the lives of every family in crisis at the Center. Your support ensures that no child or family walks this road alone.
With gratitude,
