Family Advocate Internship
Student Internship Selection Criteria
- Undergraduate candidates only.
- Students should have completed coursework in human development, family studies, and other fields related to working with at-risk youth and adults.
- Students should be able to care for children in the waiting areas while parents are in sessions.
- Students should be able to facilitate play and arts and crafts activities with children in the waiting areas.
- Students should be able to assist with special events for children.
- Students should be able to assist with completing, scanning, and mailing Crime Victims Compensation Applications.
- Students will be responsible for escorting clients to the appropriate waiting room.
- Students should be willing to assist with clerical work.
- Bilingual candidates will be given preference.
- Students must pass criminal and CPS background checks.
Student Internship Requirements
- Students must commit to one semester at DCAC and at least 15 hours per week.
- Students must commit to one hour of supervision a week.

Therapy Internships
Doctoral Psychology Internship Program
Masters-level internship and doctoral-level external practicum (see below)
The Therapy Internship Program is not currently accepting applications. Changes in our ability to accept applications from interested and eligible parties will be reflected here.
Student Internship Selection Criteria
- Students must be working toward a master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, psychology, or other related field at an accredited university.
- Students from CACREP approved or APA accredited programs, and those DCAC has a working relationship with, will be given preference.
- Eligible students should have completed a graduate-level practicum type course in which actual counseling experience is provided to clients. Coursework in counseling theories, ethics, multicultural counseling, diagnosis, group counseling, assessment, statistics, and/or research methods are required prior to beginning an internship at DCAC.
- Students who have experience working with children and adolescents will be given preference. Students should also be comfortable facilitating directive therapy (e.g., TF-CBT, PCIT) as a primary mode of therapy. TF-CBT training and support will be provided. PCIT training and supervision is available.
- Bilingual candidates will be given preference.
Student Internship Requirements
- Students must commit to two semesters at DCAC (minimum nine months).
- Students must pass criminal and CPS background checks, as well as a drug screening.
- Students must be available to see clients on Saturday (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) or at least two weekday evenings (until 8 p.m.) to accommodate the children’s and families’ schedules.
- Students must be available Fridays 9 a.m.-noon for team meetings/group supervision.
- Master’s students are required to spend a minimum of 18 hours per week at DCAC during their internship (including Friday morning meetings/group supervision); Doctoral students are required to spend a minimum of 13 hours (including Friday morning meetings/group supervision).
- Students are required to participate in one hour per week of individual supervision with their assigned supervisor.
- Students must be willing and able to see adults and children of all ages in individual, family, and group treatment. Students must be comfortable involving caregivers in treatment for all cases.
- Students are required to work three full days at the beginning of the internship to meet training requirements.

Children’s Program Internship
Student Internship Selection Criteria
- Facilitate children’s programming which includes games and arts/crafts with the Children’s Case Manager.
- Assist with special events with children in the waiting areas.
- Escorting clients to the appropriate waiting areas.
- Maintain a clean waiting area.
- Provision of behavioral interventions, supervision, and nurturing environment for children visiting for a variety of reasons (e.g., crisis, forensic interview, therapy)
- Assist with clerical work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Student Internship Requirements
- Students should have completed coursework in child development, human development, family studies, and other fields related to working with at-risk youth and adults.
- Bilingual candidates strongly preferred
- Students must commit to one semester at DCAC and a minimum of 15 hours per week
- Students must pass criminal and CPS background checks.
- The physical demands may include frequent walking, standing, sitting, and stooping. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
